Terracotta Textile Flower Sculpture

This bespoke terracotta textile flower sculpture is a unique design by Sara Thursfield Contemporary Textile Art. The embroidered fiber art ornament makes for a highly unusual gift and will grace any home setting. The ornamental flower sculpture can be enjoyed forever as it will not perish and in any situation where flowers are normally signified, this textile art flower truly surpasses its competitors.  

The petals of the flower sculpture bear a resemblance to the texture of paper but are in fact made from Tyvek - a synthetic fabric which cannot be torn and despite it's fragile appearance, the petals can be gently manipulated to alter the flowers form as it rests on its stem.

The form of the terracotta flower sculpture is created from high grade copper craft wire and each petal shape individually constructed. The Tyvek fabric has been hand dyed and free machine embroidery in a harmonizing 100% cotton added to each cut petal shape to give flower vein detail. The embroidered fabric was then hand sewn onto the six wire petal forms and heat treated to give them a distinct and snakeskin-like appearance. Once this stage was complete the Tyvek fabric petals were constucted into the flower form and wire stamens in a complimentary hue were added to enhance it's form.

The flower has a span of approximately 21 cm at it's widest.

The stem length is 8 cm

The height to the tallest stamen is 12.5 cm

The height to the tallest petal is 11 cm.

For shipping, the flower will be held in standing plate, wrapped snugly in tissue paper and packed into a reinforced cardboard box.
